THE BASICS

Use your real name as your Twitter name: Be more personal and authoritative by using your real name.

Fill out your bio: Make sure people know where to go to find more information about you.  Be specific.

Show your personality: Show off the person behind the brand on Twitter.  Use your bio to explain your passions and experience in education.

*  Upload a picture of yourself:   No "egg" photos- this is a great way for hackers to get into your account.

Promote your Twitter URL: Share your Twitter name on your email, blog, Facebook, and other locations online so people can find you.

Use Twitter on your blog: Keep your blog updated up to the minute with Twitter.  Embed the Twitter widget through settings on your profile.

Twitter abbreviations

You will see a number of abbreviations used on Twitter. Here are a few of the most common ones:
@username is how you respond to someone else directly.
#topic_name is how you designate a topic for a chat.
RT means Re-tweet, which is someone passing along a Tweet that was generated by someone else.

CHEAT SHEET- The basics of Twitter.

Directions:  Let's practice some basics- for practice purposes use #sparc14 and @pneid.  Go to @SparcConference.  The @ sign is used to mention a specific user- the # is used to refer to a specific subject or topic.  (I use Tweetdeck to monitor several feeds at one time)
